We're building better together with the MidCoast Council after being awarded the contract to deliver the replacement of the Cedar Party Creek Bridge.
The new bridge will be elevated to meet or exceed the 100-year flood level, providing a safe and reliable route for Wingham locals.
The scope includes demolition of the old bridge, construction of the temporary detour road with creek crossing and the new concrete bridge over Cedar Party Creek. It also includes constructing new road approaches, a roundabout at Wingham Road and Wynter Street, utility relocations, removal of signage, furniture at Chrissy Gollan Park and the creation of a new entrance road.
Project update – August 2025
Since works kicked off in early 2024, we’ve ticked off:
Demolition of the existing timber bridge
Construction of the temporary detour road and creek crossing
Placement of all precast girders
Utility relocations and road approach works
Delivery of more than 1,700m3 of concrete and 435 tonnes of reinforcement
Over 83,500 work hours on site
Despite record-breaking floods in May 2025 that saw the site completely inundated, works were paused, but only briefly. Thanks to fast mobilisation and solid planning, the Symal team kept momentum, limiting the delay to just 15 days. A true show of resilience and what it means to push what’s possible.
Resilience wasn’t just shown on-site. During the floods, we stood alongside the Wingham community, supporting the Midcoast Outreach Centre - an op shop run by Sharon Chamberlain that provides essential aid to people in crisis across the region. Whether it was resources, hands-on help, or simply being there when it mattered, we did what we could to support those around us.
“Symal is part of the community, and every time I’ve needed help, they’ve come to the forefront,” said Sharon Chamberlain, Founder & CEO, Midcoast Outreach Centre.
Works on the new Super-T bridge are well underway and tracking to schedule, with solid progress on site.
And a key innovation? Adopting Procore as our project management platform to keep communication clear and responsive, helping us manage Request for Information (RFIs), Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs), defects and approvals in real time. It’s part of how we continue building better with the MidCoast Council.
Looking ahead, traffic is set to switch on at the new bridge, and the project is on track for completion in late 2025. We’re proud to be shaping infrastructure that supports the Wingham community and delivering it the way Symal knows best, by building better together.
